Barclays changes current accounts

2 June 2008

Changes are being made to the current account offered by Barclays after customer suggestions, the bank said.

Beginning on June 2nd, various deals are to be offered to consumers who join with the organisation, including packaged account options.

Moreover, it is to remove unauthorised overdrafts and implement the Personal Reserve from August 18th, which will allow people to have a "safety net" if they go over their overdraft limits.

According to the bank, the number of charges handed out to consumers for breaching overdrafts will be decreased.

Managing Director of Current Accounts Mark Parsons noted that matters have been made easier with the alterations.

He commented: "The Personal Reserve gives certainty about when payments will be paid and when they won't, with just two simple, lower charges. Our new approach has been tested with consumers."

Forbes placed Barclays as the 18th biggest firm in the world on its 2007 list, while the company also sponsors the top-flight football league in England.
