Lloyds TSB in new dormant drive

18 June 2008

New methods are to be used by Lloyds TSB has the firm attempts to find people who have stopped using their bank accounts.

The organisation said that it has enlisted the services of Tracesmart, an agency, to hunt for those who have a collective £69 million in savings, reports the Financial Times.

People with dormant personal current accounts will be traced, Lloyds TSB revealed, along with those who have commercial accounts.

Group Executive Director of Retail Banking at Lloyds TSB Helen Weir suggested that it is a shame a large amount of cash has seemingly been left in the past.

"These accounts have been long forgotten and our aim is to reunite as many customers as possible with their cash," she commented.

She added that it is "surprisingly easy" for individuals to sink into the wilderness as they move house and open a number of accounts.

On average, the bank is attempting to reunite customers with £575 each in the drive.

The move has been given support by economic secretary and MP Kitty Ussher.
