Now is a great time to hunt for the ideal current account which meets customers' specific banking needs, it is believed.
Alliance & Leicester is urging people to review their finances in order to maximise the money they have, with 67% of Britons not having switched their main account since 1999.
"With many people looking for ways to save money at the moment, the simple act of switching to a more competitive current account this spring could really help your cash go further," comments Andy Muddimer, Current Account Manager at Alliance & Leicester.
He also believes finding the right account is a "win-win" situation, especially with some great deals currently available on the market.
Out of those questioned, 61% revealed they had no intention of changing accounts in the near future, a move which Alliance & Leicester believes could be risky.
According to the latest statistics released by NS&I, 47 per cent of the population manage to save regularly, remaining consistent for the third quarter of 2008.
