Getting the best rates on any account involves shopping around for the best deal, one expert believes.
Online banking may be suited to some people, says Michelle Slade, spokesperson for Moneyfacts, or looking for another provider could also be an option.
"Whereas before people were like 'well they are all going to be bad, I'll just leave it', now they are all looking around to get the best rate," she claims.
Looking into accounts with bonuses is finding favour with some people, as is notice and fixed rate accounts.
Earlier this week, Alliance & Leicester revealed consumers could save themselves money simply by switching their current account to one which better suits their needs.
It showed that over two-thirds of Britons have failed to change their current account since 1999, with 61% saying they have no plans to switch in the near future.
