Saving regularly 'should be a habit'

18 June 2009

Day to day financial pressures should not dissuade people from putting money away into their pension funds, one expert has claimed.

Even if people put away £50 a month, it can make all the difference, said Danny Cox, Head of Advice at Hargreaves Lansdown.

"Early in adult life people have many calls for their money whether it be from their family, home, savings or pensions," he suggested, adding that savers should try and make provisions for "a bit of everything".

Paying off debt is always a good idea, although some may find they reach retirement age with a small pension, Mr Cox added.

A recent study from Lincoln Financial Group has revealed that 12 million UK adults are still not making pension contributions from their salary to fund retirement.
