There has been an increase in the number of Britons saving cash when compared to the same time last year, it has been said.
Figures compiled by NS&I show the average Briton is now setting aside £92.41 every month, showing an increase from £90.12 when compared to winter 2008/09.
The number of people saving has remained consistent for the fifth consecutive quarter, the Quarterly Savings Survey reveals, as 47% regularly put money away each month.
Commenting on the results, Dax Harkins, Senior Savings Strategist at NS&I, said: "Our survey shows people are setting themselves their highest ever savings targets.
"However as we've seen previously we are still falling a long way short of our aspirations."
NS&I recently suggested Britons should do more to make financial provisions should an emergency arise.
