Banking online can help customers monitor their finances effectively, a spokesperson for the Association of Payment Clearing Services (Apacs) has claimed. Michelle Meyer said internet banking gives customers an "exact picture" of their financial situation and allows them to budget accordingly. "Having access to your finances whenever you want and seeing what is going in and coming out puts you in a good place," she remarked. She also said that consumers are becoming more internet savvy and are learning how to protect themselves when banking online. For example, with the help of advice and guidance from the banks and organisations like Apacs, they are becoming more adept at spotting phishing scams. Research from Apacs shows that over half of all internet users now bank online and the number of adult users has increased by 505% in the last seven years to just over 21 million last year.
