Flat-screen TVs spearheading digital movement

14 April 2005

The rapidly approaching digital era, as analysts have coined it, is being fuelled by ever increasing consumer demand for digital flat-screen TV systems.

According to new research from the Strategy Analytics Connected Home Devices service, demand for the flat-screen digital TV has eclipsed that for all other items within the consumer electronics market.

Reports have suggested that only two per cent of TV owners have actually switched over to flat-screens as yet which means there exists a huge area for manufactures to exploit during the coming months.

"Consumers love flat-panel TVs, and are anxious to purchase them as soon as they become more affordable," commented Peter King, director at Strategy Analytics.

"As prices continue to fall, we remain confident that annual sales globally will soar towards and beyond the hundred million unit mark."

A whole range of the high tech digital TV sets are already on offer although as Sony's latest unveilings suggest, many more will be presented in the near future.

Just last month Sony introduced two new high-definition flat-panel LCD TVs to its growing range.
