BSkyB looks to broadband

13 May 2005

Bosses at digital TV pioneer BSkyB are reportedly looking into exploiting the unlimited potential of broadband to help drive its new online advertising campaign.

The satellite giant has appointed digital marketing agency i-level to instigate the drive and to help improve revenue and sales by encouraging more traffic to its website.

Analysts have noted that the move is emblematic of the recent trend which has seen blue chip firms increasingly move more of their operations online as a major point of contact for buyers.

Dawn Whittaker, Sky's head of internet marketing, said: "Sky.com is a highly cost-effective channel for new customer acquisitions. We look forward to working with i-level to deliver continued progress towards our ambitious growth targets."

BSkyB gained 95,000 new subscribers in the first quarter of 2005, taking its total to 7.7 million, well on course to hit its target of eight million by the end of the year.
