Glasgow gets broadband TV

2 June 2005

Glasgow city council has announced plans to launch a 24-hour broadband TV service to promote the city.

The channel, www.glasgow.tv, will televise events, advertising and encourage tourists to come to the city.

Alex Mosson, Glasgow city councillor, said: "Having our own scheduled TV channel is the perfect way to bring our city to life and offer people around the world a chance to see it first hand.

"It acts as a good advertising tool, is state-of-the-art technology and we are proud that we are the first city to do this."

Included in the programming schedule are the Great Scottish Run, the launch of the Glasgow Clipper yacht and the Railstorm snowboarding competition.

The channel will be launched on the Narrowstep CityTV platform, which builds and deliver a city's TV station over the internet.
