Digital TV suppliers confused about switchover

24 August 2005

In potentially disastrous news for consumers, digital TV bosses have admitted that they are worried about the switchover from analogue to digital TV.

According to a report from Video Networks, 60 per cent of executives are unfamiliar with the government's plans, and don't know if they should be doing more to help with the move.

By 2012, the government envisages that nearly 100 per cent of households, or 24 million homes, will have switched to digital.

One broadcasting executive told the survey: "Is there a process in place at the moment? It's been left to the market to do."

A spokesperson for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport said: "We are working with industry to improve their involvement, not only in communicating switchover but also in producing digital products which are easy to use, in all sizes and at all prices."
