New partnership to protect digital mobile TV

31 August 2005

NDS, the specialist in secure content delivery technology for digital pay-TV, has reached an agreement with Frontier Silicon to implement technology aimed at protecting the growing market for mobile digital TV (MDTV) and digital audio broadcasting (DAB).

The deal involves Frontier's T-DMB, DVB-H and DAB receiving chips being equipped with NDS mVideoGuard content protection technology to produce an end-to-end securely encoded solution that will be received by users who have themselves secured the necessary digital rights.

The companies will now take part in demonstrations of their technology at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) exhibition in Amsterdam in September.

Downloads will be carried out on prototype platforms with NDS mVideoGuard conditional access (CA), DRM and electronic program guide (EPG) solutions using Frontier's various chip products.

Carmi Bogot, vice president of business development at NDS, outlined: "We foresee a big potential from our partnership with Frontier Silicon across the various digital multimedia technologies for TV and radio.

"Frontier's unique multi-standard T-DMB/DVB-H approach to mobile TV on top of the company's leading position in DAB/T-DMB chipsets, gives NDS opportunities to work with appropriate partners to develop the secure delivery solution that content providers can rely upon, over multiple broadcast technologies."
