Canon has launched an inkjet printer which can print off information from digital TV programmes.
The printer will be launched in Japan next year, and is expected to reach the European market at a later date.
It would not print out screen snapshots themselves, but would allow the reproduction of extra information relating to the programme - the kind of data, for example, which can often be accessed by pressing the red button on a remote control.
Canon spokesman Richard Berger explained: "If there was a TV commercial say for a pizza delivery place, perhaps there would be a discount coupon that you could print out."
Canon is keen to increase its presence in living rooms, and hot on the heels of this new product will be a new kind of flat panel TV, developed with Toshiba, which should be launched early next year.
