Digital TV viewers have been dealt a boost by the news that Channel Four is considering converting its FilmFour service to Freeview.
FilmFour is the broadcaster's only extant Pay TV service as things stand, but several reports claim that the channel will become free-to-air, with more advertising than in its previous incarnation, next year.
Sky customers currently pay £7 a month for service but Channel Four is banking on receiving greater monies from advertisers in tandem with an increase in viewers.
The latter should not prove at all impossible - FilmFour's potential audience would rise from 400,000 households to around 15 million.
A similar move involving sister channel E4 paid off earlier this year when it switched to Freeview and saw its audience share double.
Having beaten off stiff competition for the most recent Freeview slot to be auctioned late last month, Channel Four may consider using it to house FilmFour.
