65.9 per cent of UK households plugged in to digital TV

22 December 2005

About two thirds of UK households now watch digital TV, according to a new Ofcom report.

Figures showed that 65.9 per cent of British viewers tuned in to digital, with another 2.6 per cent of households receiving television services via analogue cable, bringing the total number of multi-channel homes to 68.5 per cent.

Digital cable subscribers now account for more than 2.6 million of the total cable television homes, an increase of more than 43,300 in the quarter, with subscriptions to analogue and digital cable television decreasing slightly to just below 3.3 million in the quarter.

The drop has been attributed to a fall in analogue cable subscribers outweighing the increase in digital cable subscriptions.

BSkyB added another 48,000 in its first full fiscal quarter.
