Terrestrial broadcaster Five has announced that it is to launch two new free-to-air digital channels.
Five US and Five life will begin broadcasting in the autumn of this year.
Its Five US channel will carry popular programmes from across the Atlantic across a range of genres, including drama, comedy, films and programmes for young people.
It will also show some US sports, something the main Five channel has already done.
The output on Five life will be aimed at a female audience and will concentrate on drama, soaps and lifestyle programmes. It will also feature an extension of Five's pre-school Milkshake! strand.
"This is tremendously exciting and the most important development in Five's history since our launch more than nine years ago," said the channel's chief executive, Jane Lighting.
"We believe these two new channels will play to our programming strengths, highlighting genres in which we have an acknowledged track record.
"A huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to create two propositions that genuinely increase viewer choice across the digital platforms."
Both channels will also be used to carry spin-off series based on programming shown on its main channel.
