15 June 2006

Virgin Radio has signed a deal that will see it transmit on the UK's digital terrestrial television service, Freeview.

The pop music station has signed a deal with the interactive services provider YooMedia, which will provide bandwidth necessary for the transmission of the radio station on Freeview.

As a result of the deal, Virgin Radio will have access to over seven million listeners with a Freeview set top box.

"With nearly 44 million people in the UK tuning in each week to various radio services, radio cannot be ignored," said YooMedia's group managing director Neil MacDonald.

"We are therefore delighted to be working with Virgin Radio to deliver some of the best available rock and pop content to millions of Freeview homes."

Fru Hazlitt, Virgin Radio's chief executive, added: "In order to achieve maximum growth it is critical that Virgin Radio is accessible across every available platform.

"This will extend our reach to millions of Freeview customers and is another example of our commitment to high-quality radio across multiple platforms."
