FilmFour to launch on Freeview

20 July 2006

Channel Four's dedicated film channel, FilmFour, is to become available to all customers with digital terrestrial television, known as Freeview.

The channel will become available from July 23rd. Until now, viewers have had to pay a subscription to watch the channel's output.

The relaunch of FilmFour makes it the UK's only free-to-air movie channel.

It will begin its free airing with the network premiere of the award-winning film Lost in Translation, starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson.

"It's fantastic to have a film channel of such quality launching on to the Freeview service," said Sophie Alexander, head of consumer marketing at Freeview.

"We already have fantastic drama, lifestyle and entertainment channels but a dedicated film channel was exactly what we needed. Now something that could only previously be viewed with a subscription package can be viewed by all Freeview viewers with no additional cost."

There is no monthly subscription needed to watch Freeview. Consumers simply have to purchase a set top box.
