Digital TV service helps keep it local

3 November 2006

A new digital television service is helping keep Wrexham residents informed about local issues. The service is called "Looking local" and provides local information, useful contacts, travel news and a place to request council actions.

The service is a combined project between Wrexham County Borough Council and a local government technology project DigiTV.

Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council, councillor Aled Roberts, said: "This is an exciting new development for the people of Wrexham. We have already made significant improvements to our customer access...and digital television is another example of our commitment to developing first class services.

"Wales will be at the forefront of the digital TV switch over and Wrexham is leading the way with this new easy to use interactive service," he added.

Customer access manager, Helen Gerrard, commented: "We found the DigiTV technology an excellent way of developing a presence on digital television as well as mobile phones. We were very much guided by the knowledge, expertise and support of DigiTV that was invaluable throughout the site's development.

"We now have one of the first fully interactive digital TV and mobile sites offering council services in Wales," she said, proudly.

Over 70% of homes now have access to digital TV across the country and by 2009 all of Wales will be digital.
