Telecommunications company ntl Telewest is to bring high definition television (HDTV) to 650,000 customers in the Teesside and Glasgow area as part of its TVDrive campaign.
The campaign will see TVDrive rolled out to all 12 million of ntl Telewest's customers by the early next year.
TVDrive was launched earlier in the year and claims to be more flexible than its main competitor, the Sky+ box. Consumers will be able to record and save up to 80 hours' worth of their favourite television programmes.
In addition, the TVDrive will enable consumers to access HD picture quality, providing they own a compatible television set. HD ready sets will have a HD Ready logo on them and should have an HDMI port to access to all high definition content.
Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer of ntl Telewest, said: "TVDrive has been hugely popular with Telewest customers so we are launching to ntl areas as soon as possible. Our combination of TV on demand, HDTV and a personal video recorder is unique in the market."
