Broadcaster BSkyB has had a successful fiscal second quarter as far as TV subscriptions are concerned with over 200,000 new subscribers arriving, raising its total to 8.5 million, but broadband figures are not expected to be as rosy.
It is believed that the TV subscriptions puts it well on target to reach its self-set total of ten million subscribers by 2010, but its projected broadband figures look to be falling short of the predicted one million users by the end of this year, according to a report in the Independent.
Over 74,000 customers signed up for BSkyB's broadband package when it debuted last summer and despite a relatively successful second quarter, with 150,000 additional subscribers predicted, the company still has a lot to do in order to hit its goal.
Bosses at BSkyB are hoping to entice customers into buying a TV package as part of a bundled deal with its "free" broadband service, thereby removing customers from its rival ntl.
Ntl is re-branding next month as Virgin Media and is hoping to entice consumers with its "four-play" programme which sees TV, telephone, broadband and mobile being bundled together. BT's bundled package Vision will also provide additional competition for the providers.
