BT launches low cost sports service

Sports fans will soon be able to catch up with the football matches they've missed, thanks to a new service from BT.

BT Vision Sport Service aims to give football fans the chance to watch Premier League matches after they happen and whenever they like from 4 per month.

Sports fanatics will also be able to get a monthly 12 deal to have a package of English and Scottish matches brought to their screens.

BT Vision is aimed at consumers who have BT Total Broadband but who are unable to receive, or are unwilling to pay the costs for subscriptions to other sports channel providers such as Virgin Media or Sky.

Viewers will be able to watch 242 Premier League matches over the course of next season as well as 125 Coca Cola league and Carling Cup games.

Fans will pay 1.99 to watch one of the 242 "near-live" matches or alternatively can opt for a monthly subscription of 4.

"This is a great day for sports fans. Fans can now follow their team for less than a pound a week. Why pay sky-high prices now there's an alternative?" Ian Livingston, BT Retail Chief Executive said.

Echoing these comments, Dan Marks, BT Vision Chief Executive, said: "We're a sports-loving nation and ordinary fans shouldn't be priced out of the action.

"Millions of fans have resisted subscription services to date and so we feel there's a substantial gap in the market. Highlights on Match of The Day are fine but many fans want more, particularly those who follow teams that aren't often featured live.

"BT's unique mix of live and on demand sport means there is something for everyone, at prices people can afford and on the terms they choose," he added.

To access the service viewers must have an existing BT Broadband connection as well as a set-top box called a V-Box, costing 60 to install and 30 for connection.
