More Britons than ever own digital TVs as the country prepares for the national analogue switch-off, Ofcom has reported.
According to latest results, for the third quarter of 2007, 21.7 million homes in the UK have digital TV of some sort on their main sets.
This equates to 86.1% of households - up 1.1% from the previous quarter.
Freeview, which can receive a digital signal through a set-top box alone, grew more strongly than digital cable and satellite services over the quarter - adding 2.4 million purchases.
Around 14 million homes now have Freeview - with 9.1 million using satellite dishes and 3.4 million having cable TV.
The national TV switchover from analogue to digital signals began earlier this year, when two Cumbrian towns became the first to have completed the transition.
They will be followed by the Borders region as a whole early next year - with other regions following suit one by one until 2012.
