Digital radio broadcaster GCap Media has announced its decision to close several of its stations.
In a new corporate strategy mapped out by its new Chief Executive Fru Hazlitt, GCap will now shut several of its less well-performing services such as theJazz and Planet Rock.
In turn, popular FM stations such as London's Capital will be allocated extra funds.
The increasing prevalence of people listening to the stations through their broadband connection rather than through digital TV or radio has also been marked by the broadcaster.
Ms Hazlitt commented: "Today we are announcing a radical but realistic set of measures with the aim of delivering significant improvements to profits and operating margins.
"GCap Media will become a leaner and more dynamic company focused on…FM and broadband, the platforms that we believe consumers want and which offer the greatest growth opportunities."
The UK is currently undergoing its digital TV switchover, which will see all analogue sets become obsolete by 2012.
Last year, research from the firm handling the digital TV transition, Digital UK, said that 52% of digital TV buyers now cite the switchover as an important influence in their purchasing decision.
