"No matter where you live in the UK, Channel 6 would be a local channel offering local news, local programming and local advertising. Channel 6 would also carry networked public service content," it said.
An Early Day Motion got support from MP Ian Stewart, who stated that the British public is "the least well served" in terms of local services through television.
The National Audit Office recently claimed that the planned timetable for the digital switchover in the UK could be hindered because of poor weather conditions.
