A new report issued by Ofcom has claimed that nearly 90% of households in the UK now have access to digital television.
In total, 22 million households currently have equipment with digital capabilities, the organisation revealed, while 87.6% of homes have multichannel TV, final-quarter figures for 2007 showed.
During this same quarter, 524,000 homes added digital services to their options, as people with satellite and cable accounted for 280,000 more digital avenues.
Such growth was added to by sales of integrated digital sets and a 25% year-on-year rise in set-top box sales, Ofcom noted.
Principal Consultant at Understanding & Solutions Graeme Packman told the Guardian that consumers are in a strong position to welcome the digital switchover.
"Lesser brands are also bringing it on stream now and this year all TV sets sold will be integrated digital TVs," he commented.
In related news, this week it was announced that original TV content is to be available on the Microsoft Xbox 360, created by director Peter Safran.
