Credit problems 'lead to more bundles'

8 April 2008

Bundled television, internet and telephone services are proving to be popular in the present economic climate, it has been claimed.

According to Simplifydigital, in the first quarter of this year, the number of consumers taking on all of these channels from a single operator stood at 39%, a rise on the last quarter in 2007.

Just home phone and broadband solutions are still a strong solution, with these bundles making up 42% of sales, the firm added.

Chief Executive of Simplifydigital Charlie Ponsonby urged customers to research the market before opting to take out a product, while at the time saying that it is good see them being astute in the bundles market.

He commented: "Consumers are voting with their feet and rapidly taking advantage of the big savings to be made from bundling all three of their services - the age of buying these services separately seems to be coming to an end."

This week, the regulator Ofcom stated that a new portion of radio spectrum is set to be auctioned off in the summer to open up new broadband and 3G capabilities.
