Scottish consumers 'may be tricked in digital arena'

5 June 2008

Digital TV viewers in Scotland may be tricked into purchasing equipment they do not really need, it has been claimed.

The Scottish Consumer Council (SCC) has told a group of politicians in the country that some people think they will have to replace the analogue aerial when the signal is switched off, reports the BBC.

And some older consumers have been drawing up notes on the problems they think could occur in the future.

"There is still a perception among many of our diarists that they will have to purchase and install a new aerial, which could make them susceptible to rogue traders," a report from the SCC contended.

Those sitting on the Scottish Parliament's local government and communities committee were talking about how the change is to impact on locals in Scotland.

Digital UK has stated that the switchover process in the country will start on November 6th 2008, with the borders region leading the way.
