Digital TV 'will grow in popularity'

6 June 2008

Penetration of digital TV is set to hit 93% in the UK by the end of the year, according to new research.

Deloitte has claimed that despite these figures many of the existing televisions in place need to be upgraded and replaced, reports Digital Spy.

And firms in the digital sector ought to ensure that the services they provide for people are of the maximum possible quality.

Head of Technology, Media and Telecoms at Deloitte Jolyon Barker said that there is a large future for digital television.

"While digitisation has already enabled mass market change, from the adoption of emails and mobile phones to the growth of e-commerce, digitisation's full impact has yet to be felt," the official commented.

But more people will choose to watch television on the internet in the years ahead, which will disrupt the sector, Deloitte noted.

This week, the Scottish Consumer Council stated that some watchers in the country could be tricked into purchasing aerials they do not need for digital services.
