Scottish retailers 'sketchy over digital'

16 June 2008

A number of shops in Scotland are giving inaccurate information out to customers regarding digital TV, it has been claimed.

The Scottish Consumer Council (SCC) deployed mystery shoppers to retailers throughout the country and found that on some occasions the spies were informed they would have to purchase a completely new television set, reports Scotland on Sunday.

Just six of the targeted outlets knew of a government-run initiative allowing more support for poorer people and elderly individuals.

Head of Corporate Resources at the SCC Trisha McAuley argued that bigger retail shops should really know better than to give out false information.

"People are going to go to their retailers to ask questions, particularly older people who may not use or have access to the official websites carrying this information, so the retailers really have to up their game," she commented.

Recently, ABI Research noted that digital is becoming the favoured medium via which to access services across Europe.
