An MP has condemned a move that has seen Sky be given a contract in order to help consumers during the switchover to digital television.
Liberal Democrat politician for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk Michael Moore claimed that Sky will have something of a marketing monopoly thanks to the development, reports the BBC.
The goal of the drive is to offer support to older and disabled people in an effort to help them to use digital services without a great deal of hassle.
Mr Moore commented: "What it fundamentally does take away is the idea that the transfer to digital television is done on a neutral basis, without any particular choice between the different television platforms."
He added that it is "absolutely crazy" that people opting to use Freeview will have to pay to receive extra assistance.
In related news, the Scottish Consumer Council recently found after a survey that some retailers in the country are being misleading over digital services.
