Welsh programmes for nursery children

24 June 2008

A television channel offering programmes in Welsh has begun to air on the digital arm of S4C. This is the first part of a move by the broadcaster to create a Welsh-only station, not including content options from Channel 4, reports the BBC. Operating alongside the creation - Cyw - will be a website including games for children and other fun treats. Chief Executive at S4C Iona Jones noted that this is a great move for the firm and represents a large step forward. She commented: "I'm confident this significant expansion will reinforce the good name S4C and its independent producers have in the field of children's programming - in Wales, the UK and internationally." Now children's programmes will be available for a longer period of time over the course of the day thanks to the changes. Money for the channel is raised by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
