Date set for Devon switchover

2 July 2008

The independent group charged with undertaking the digital switchover process in Britain, Digital UK, has said that north Devon will see the change in a year's time. On June 1st 2009, the move between the two forms of broadcasting will commence with the help of the Huntshaw Cross Transmitter Group, reports the North Devon Gazette. South-West Regional Manager at Digital UK Bill Taylor urged people in the area to purchase digital solutions so they can benefit from the changes. "Viewers can check the services available in their area by calling the Digital UK helpline or visiting our website," he commented. He added that is will be difficult to reach out to older and more vulnerable people because they are not that aware of the new technology. Help should be given where it is needed the most, Mr Taylor also suggested. In related news, a fresh Scottish-based digital news channel could be created there after support from the government.
