The advice offered to consumers in Dorset looking to convert to digital TV has been described as "shocking" by the organisation leading Britain's digital switchover. Digital UK was commenting on the findings of an investigation by Trading Standards which uncovered numerous instances where consumers were given the wrong guidance, the BBC reports. Undercover officers from the consumer protection agency contacted a number of electrical stores and aerial fitters to inquire about switching to digital TV. They found that many of them were unable to give accurate answers and some said consumers would need new aerials when in fact there was no need for such equipment. Bill Taylor, South West Regional Manager of Digital UK, said: "These are shocking figures. It's clear that only a tiny minority of retailers and aerial installers manage to give completely accurate advice about digital TV switchover." New research from Digital UK shows that almost one-third of all television sets in the UK are still not receiving digital signals, despite the start of the switchover being just weeks away.
