Scottish Borders go digital

7 November 2008

The Scottish Borders has become the first full region to make the switch to digital TV after its analogue signals were turned off at midnight on Wednesday.

Around 52,000 homes were affected by the move, and will no longer be able to receive BB2 on analogue.

Digital UK confirmed that 97% of households were prepared for the switch - having digital-ready equipment in their homes.

"Scottish Borders residents have really responded to the information campaign and they're well prepared to lead the first, full-scale digital switchover," said the organisation's National Manager for Scotland, Paul Hughes.

The second phase of the switchover process in the Borders region will take place on November 20th, when the remaining analogue channels will be switched off.

Whitehaven in Cumbria was the first town to go digital as part of a trial in October last year.

Most other parts of Cumbria, along with south west Scotland, will be switched over in June next year.
