Digital TV viewers 'bundling up'

27 November 2008

Digital TV viewers are increasingly opting for bundled deals which include broadband and telephone services as well, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesperson for the communications regulator Ofcom, competitive digital packages are driving down prices in the UK.

She said bundles have been around for a while now and consumers who opt for them instead of buying packages individually are getting a good deal.

"If you bundle stuff and take more than one service from a provider, it works out cheaper and people are shopping around for cheaper deals through bundling," she remarked.

The spokesperson also said that consumers are demanding more sophisticated television viewing experiences as digital TV becomes mainstream.

She said people are now looking for "adds-ons" such as high definition televisions and digital video recorders to enhance their services.

According to Ofcom's 2008 International Communications Market report, 86% of households in the UK had digital TV on their main set in 2007.
