Wales is set to become the first digital nation in the UK when analogue signals are switched off across the country in 2010.
According to the BBC, Digital UK has revealed that the first area in Wales to go digital will be Swansea between August and September next year.
This will be followed by all remaining parts of the country and will finish with Cardiff, Newport and the south-east in March 2010.
Following the switchover, viewers will be able to receive digital signals through an aerial and will enjoy around 20 free channels instead of four at present.
Gwenllian Carr, Digital UK's National Manager in Wales, said: "Once the process is complete, virtually all viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy digital TV through an aerial, offering many homes more choice than ever before."
Analogue signals were switched off in the Scottish borders last month. Cumbria, south-west Scotland and the south Lakes are due to follow in June next year.
