Digital TV schedules 'too complex'

17 December 2008

Digital TV viewers may end up missing some of their favourite programmes this Christmas because viewing schedules are too complex.

This is the view of Vizimo, which claims large increases in the number of digital TV channels available make it harder for people to find the programmes that are of interest to them.

The listings technology company found that over 90% of UK households have at least one multi-channel digital TV service. With more than 400 channels available in the UK, navigating through them could prove difficult.

"There are so many channels and so many sources that it's virtually impossible to find and remember all the programmes that you might want to watch so you can plan your day or evening in front of the TV," said Vizimo chief Simon Steward.

Viewers can also now watch digital TV online thanks to the launch of several livestream services.

Sky recently launched its Sky Player TV, which allows consumers to subscribe to Sky channels without having a satellite dish installed.
