Digital TV is now installed in almost 90% of all UK households, according to the latest figures from communications regulator Ofcom.
The watchdog found that by the end of September, some 88.2% of homes had digital TV on their main television set. This was an increase of 3.1 per cent compared to the same period last year and means that 22.5 million households now have some form of digital TV.
Of these, almost 50% have subscribed to pay TV, while four out of ten are watching free-to-view digital TV, Ofcom found.
The publication of the figures comes as a number of UK regions get ready for the digital switchover next year. Last month, the Scottish Borders was the first to go digital following a successful trial in the Cumbrian town of Whitehaven in 2007.
Meanwhile, figures from Digital UK show that nine out of ten television sets sold in the 12 months to October were digital-ready. Compare digital TV packages online now to make sure you are getting the best deal available.
