Sales of digital TV recorders are on the rise, suggesting consumers are keen on taking more control over their viewing, Ofcom has announced.
According to the body, five million of Sky's customers now have the Sky+ service and more than 2.6 million people are subscribing to enhanced Freeview channels.
Furthermore, 19% of Sky customers now have at least one additional set connected to the provider through its Multiroom service.
The first quarter of this year saw the total number of households with a digital terrestrial television soar from 17.7 million to 18 million, which has been partly accredited to the launch of Freeview back in 2002.
Ofcom announced earlier this week it was to make provisions for more competition to be available in the pay TV market and to allow premium channels to be made widely accessible.
