Homeowners in the UK are wasting £4.8 billion on energy bills according to one of the UK's leading home improvement providers.
Everest made the comments yesterday explaining that homeowners were not helping themselves by deciding against installing insulation particularly at a time of prolonged cold weather and recent energy price hikes.
Over the last two years gas prices have risen an average of 9.9 per cent a year, with electricity up an average of 7.1 per cent, Everest noted.
But homes could save huge amounts on energy bills through simple actions such as installing double-glazing - which is now as much as three times as efficient as standard windows at keeping in warmth.
"With energy prices increasing steadily and with the cold winter kicking in, heating bills are set to increase dramatically," commented Duncan Bland, marketing director at Everest.
"But homeowners can save a substantial amount of money on their bills simply by installing correctly fitted quality doors, windows and roofs," he added.
