National Grid Transco has moved to publicly reassure homeowners in the UK that fears over gas shortages are unsubstantiated.
A spokesperson from the network insisted yesterday that the predicted milder weather in addition to the introduction of new gas storage facilities will almost certainly help reduce current demand for gas.
This will according to spokesman Chris Mostyn therefore reduce the chance of consumers experiencing any shortages. National Grid also claims that there is 8,929 gigawatt hours equivalent of gas currently stored in the country's storage facilities.
"People have been using gas that's in storage but that's what it's there forand the weather's improving now," Mr Mostyn told AFX News.
The statement follows recent newspaper reports suggesting that the country was heading for something of an energy crisis because of the unusually cold weather conditions.
