International recognition for Guernsey Electricity

21 March 2005

Guernsey Electricity has been awarded a major international award for its meter-reading project that could now be set to have an influence on the UK market as a whole.

The energy firm's idea was named 'Best AMR Initiative in Europe' and is likely to be introduced to over 25,000 homes during the next five years.

The service has been praised for producing more accurate residential energy bills through the first-of-its-kind automated service.

"Wherever it is appropriate and beneficial to our customers, we will always look to use technology to provide a better service," said GE managing director Ian Watson.

"Automated metering is a prime example. It will improve reliability and efficiency and offer much more convenience."

Experts have suggested that the technological innovation could provide the solution to an ongoing meter reading problem that has lasted now for several years.
