Energy group NPower has confirmed that it is planning on securing a greater portion of the Scottish electricity market.
The Scotsman writes that bosses at NPower are targeting a 20 per cent share increase and are confident of achieving it by using the new Betta system.
Betta, the new UK-wide electricity trading market, has been designed to make it easier for rival energy suppliers to transmit electricity from the rest of the UK.
NPower business sales manager Steve Fitzsimons suggested that the new system could help "normalise" the market.
"Our strategy is basically to supply electricity to our existing Scottish gas customers, something that was not easy before," he added.
Industry regulator Ofgem has repeated its determination to see the Scottish electricity market made more flexible with a decrease in dominance for Scottish Power and Scottish & Southern Energy.
