MP supports Thames Water's efficiency drive

6 June 2005

Environment minister Elliot Morley has lent his support to Thames Water's efficiency drive to save water.

The water provider has announced that it is trying to encourage people to make small changes in their daily habits so that the region has enough water supplies for the coming summer months.

Among the advice from Thames Water is for customers to turn off the tap when brushing their teeth or to use a watering can rather than a hose to water their gardens.

Mr Morley showed his support for the campaign during the Green Lifestyles Show in London's Greenwich Park held to mark World Environment Day.

"Leaving the tap running each time you clean your teeth wastes an average of six litres. That might not sound a lot, but if everybody makes the effort to save as you brush it can collectively make a big difference," said Tony Denton, Thames Water's community affairs manager.

"The minister's support is important and we hope it will encourage more people to do their bit too."

Don't pay more than you need on everyday things. Switching utility & financial suppliers is easy and saves you money.
