Environment Agency upbeat about water

13 June 2005

Water quality in England and Wales has improved over the last five years, according to a government report.

The Environment Agency's 'A Better Place' review of the environment in England and Wales in 2005 found that air and water quality showed significant improvement, meaning people were getting better quality water in their houses.

The agency discovered that rivers were the cleanest on record, with 80 per cent of bathing waters meeting the toughest standard. This is compared with just 45 per cent in 2000.

Water UK welcomed the positive assessment, but added that much still needed to be done, in spite of the good work done by many water companies so far.

Don't pay more than you need on everyday things. Switching utility & financial suppliers is easy and saves you money.
