Energy retailers have urged customers to switch to Direct Debit after it was revealed the payment system can reduce people's energy bills.
The Energy Retail Association (ERA), which represents the UK's major energy suppliers such as British Gas, npower and Powergen, voiced its support for Direct Debit in a press statement Tuesday.
The research, commissioned by BACS, revealed that customers can save up to £187 per household by using Direct Debit schemes.
Duncan Sedgwick, chief executive of the Energy Retail Association said: "This is a great saving for eligible customers while also being a convenient payment method."
