The introduction of new energy market regulations in Scotland mean consumers could benefit from cheaper electricity and gas bills thanks to increased competion.
The British Electricity Trading and Transmission Arrangements (BETTA) has created a fully competitive UK-wide wholesale electricity market.
Before BETTA, all electricity sold in Scotland had to be purchased from either Scottish Power or Scottish & Southern Energy, but the new regulations mean electricity resellers will now be increasingly able to use their purchasing power in order to provide cheaper energy.
Another way Scottish consumers will be able to save is by considering discount clubs, which provide services at a reduced cost, provided they are bought through the same supplier.
