New software improves energy billing

National Grid Transco (NGT) has announced that the use of new SAP software has improved gas billing services for more than 20 million metered customers.

The software has enhanced communications between NGT and leading gas suppliers such as British Gas, PowerGen and npower.

One of the primary benefits of the use of the database software has meant that data errors have been reduced, meaning customers should receive a more accurate bill and have any service issues rectified in a shorter period.

Christine Hughes, information systems manager, Transco Metering at NGT, said: "The utilities market is moving from a regulated to a highly competitive market place; SAP was able to provide us with the best value solution, with industry best practice built in.
