The use of micro-renewable power could be the cheapest choice for energy in the long-run, according to a new study.
The New Economics Foundation (NEF) has said that micro-generation solar photovoltaic (PV), geothermal or tidal technology could replace other less environmentally sound options.
Micro-generation sources are easy to install, have negligible emission levels and lose less power during transmission.
"Renewable energy from micro generation has a vital role to play in putting Britain on the path to a sustainable energy supply," said Sarah Butler Sloss, chair of the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy.
The NEF has estimated that the use of micro-generation would benefit the UK to the tune of £35 million a year, because the generators use less energy.
